Camille is a novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils. The plot touched on the real events: the title character is Marguerite Gautier, who is based on Marie Duplessis, the real-life lover of author Dumas, fils. The novel tells the love story between a courtesan and a young man Armand Duval. The readers immediately fell in love with this Dumas's novel. It formed the basis for a play, and then for Giuseppe Verdi's opera La Traviata.
