"The House of Mirth" is a novel by the American writer, Pulitzer Prize winner, Edith Wharton. It was first published in 1905. In the center of the plot is the story of Lily Bart. She has a rich family history, but no money at all. Lily belongs to high society in New York, from which she tries to take everything in spite of poverty.
